Last researches have shown excellent results with Ozone Therapy to treat fybromialgia.
Fibromyalgia
is a common disease characterized by pain, stiffness and fatigue, is
originated from the muscles and other soft tissues. There are no
objective tests for evaluating fibromyalgia and current diagnostic
criteria requires the presence of chronic widespread pain in combination
with dermal discomfort pressure in 11 or more of the 18 typical points.
Some of the problems commonly associated with fibromyalgia are:
• Fatigue
• Stiffness in the morning
• Sleep problems
• Headaches
• Numbness of hands and feet
• Depression and anxiety
Usually
the patient does not remember how long he has been experiencing the
aches, they normally say they have been suffering it "for several
years".
The
pain of fibromyalgia in soft tissue is described as a deep, radiating,
gnawing, shooting or burning, and it ranges from mild to severe. Those
affected by the disease tend to wake up due to pain and stiffness in the
body.
For
some patients with fibromyalgia, the pain lessens during the day and
increases again during the evening hours, although many of them have
unrelenting pain all day. Moreover it can increase with activity, cold
or damp weather, anxiety and stress.
The
most accepted hypothesis explaining the cause of fibromyalgia posits
the existence of a disorder of perception, transmission and modulation
of pain stimulus , which originates in the central nervous system,
manifested by decrease of pain threshold and bad adaptation to aerobic
exercise.
Application of ozone therapy:
Ozone therapy
is a treatment that provides excellent results, because thanks to the
therapeutic properties of ozone can provide overall wellness and pain
relief.
Dr.
Gloria Rovira, Director of the ozone unit of Quiron Hospital of
Barcelona, indicates ozone therapy as a method to relieve the pain and
infuse some energy into the patient. Fibromyalgia
causes the patient to feel pain at certain points, especially when
pressure is exerted, and that painful sensation spreads throughout the
body. This contributes to discomfort, to feel constantly tired and too
weak to do any activity.
Ozone
treatment attempts to mitigate and minimize these problems. One of the
effects of ozone therapy is to relieve the pains of a particular joint
or muscle. The patient with fibromyalgia is therefore withheld in the
vicious circle of inactivity. If the person feels tired chooses not
move, and that inactivity makes him feel even more tired and weaker
because doesn't secrete endorphins.
Therefore, the first goal is to break that cycle of immobility. At the beginning of ozone treatment
the patient is guided to do some physical activity into daily routine.
The strength obtained by the ozone therapy oxygenates the tissues of the
body so that the person feels in the mood and energy.
Treatment with ozone
does special emphasis on the areas of greatest pain and it has
analgesic and antiinfamatory effect. Importantly, when a patient begins
to feel better, must walk and start doing physical activities he enjoys
and feels comfortable.
